Mirva Mäkinen

Mirva Mäkinen is a Finnish dance artist, choreographer, pedagogue and Contact Improvisation teacher. Her work centers on flow, kinetic energy, rhythm, gravity, falling and inertia, with a strong research background in the somaesthetics of Contact Improvisation.

Mirva holds a Doctorate in Dance from the University of the Arts Helsinki, where her artistic research focused on the somaesthetics of Contact Improvisation. She also holds an MA in Dance and a Master's degree in Physical Education.

Since 2000 she has worked as a dance teacher, choreographer and lecturer, including at Kallio Upper Secondary School of Performing Arts and the University of the Arts Helsinki. She has performed and taught internationally in more than 40 countries, collaborating with companies and artists across contemporary dance, circus and improvisation.
